Detention over Ghana Jollof: Dennis Miracles Aboagye speaks

Senior aide to NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, is wondering the basis for the two-week remand of senior nursing officer Salomey Awity Baffoe in connection with investigations into the TikTok account known as “Ghana Jollof.”

Speaking on Channel One Newsroom on Friday, September 18, 2026, Aboagye questioned why Baffoe, who he described as a third party allegedly connected to the person being sought by police, was remanded for two weeks.

“What exactly is the offense that warrants a third party, supposedly related, connected friend to somebody you are looking for, to be remanded for two weeks?” he asked.

Aboagye noted that the charge against Baffoe relates to an allegation of publication of false news and questioned whether that justified such a remand.

“The charge has to do with an allegation of publication of false news. And that warrants a two-week remand of even the person who may have peddled the false news, let alone somebody you believe is related or could know the person,” he said.

He also questioned whether the action was consistent with democratic principles.

“Is that how a country is run? Which aspect of this whole plot represents how a democratic nation is run?” he asked.

Aboagye said the Police should have provided clearer justification for the action against Baffoe, particularly because investigators have identified another person as the alleged operator of the Ghana Jollof account.

He further criticised what he described as an excessive response towards people suspected of being connected to the account.

“Is there any way you can point out anything from the press today that justifies this cruelty to a fellow citizen?” he asked.
