Sacking NSA Boss, Visa Scandal: List of demands from Minority to GFA, NSA and Sports Ministry

The Minority in Parliament has intensified its scrutiny of Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign, demanding answers from the Ghana Football Association (GFA), National Sports Authority (NSA) and Ministry of Sports and Recreation over a series of financial, administrative and logistical issues.

The concerns follow revelations made during the country’s World Cup expenditure, visa processing and other arrangements for Ghana’s participation in the tournament.

Ranking Member of the Youth, Sports and Culture Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, says the Minority wants the relevant institutions to account for how public funds were used and explain decisions surrounding the management of the Black Stars’ campaign.

Here are the nine key issues the Minority wants addressed:

1. The alleged US$600,000 visa facilitation scandal

The Minority is demanding an explanation over an alleged US$600,000 visa facilitation arrangement involving the NSA in connection with Ghana’s World Cup travel.

2. Alleged US$8,000 charges

The caucus wants the NSA to account for allegations that some officials charged individuals as much as US$8,000 to assist with travel arrangements but allegedly failed to deliver the promised services.

3. Money allegedly owed to aggrieved individuals

The Minority is also raising concerns over claims that NSA Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah is under pressure to refund money to individuals who allegedly paid for travel assistance.

4. Police CID questioning

It is seeking clarity on reports that Ampofo Ankrah and other NSA officials have been invited by the Police CID for questioning over the visa-related allegations.

5. Call for Ampofo Ankrah’s removal

The Minority is calling for the dismissal of the NSA boss over the allegations surrounding the authority’s handling of World Cup-related visa arrangements.

6. US$10,000 payments to support staff

Questions have also been raised over payments of US$10,000 involving the Black Stars’ chef, caterer, security personnel and purse holder, with the Minority seeking justification for the expenditure.

7. Thomas Partey’s Canada entry

The caucus wants the GFA and Sports Ministry to explain whether proper administrative and legal due diligence was conducted before Thomas Partey was included in Ghana’s World Cup arrangements, despite his subsequent inability to enter Canada for the opening match against Panama.

8. Where did the GH¢58 million go?

The Minority is demanding a detailed breakdown of the reported GH¢58 million spent on Ghana’s World Cup campaign, seeking clarity on how the money was allocated across tickets, travel, accommodation, logistics and other expenses.

9. Full details of Queiroz’s new contract

Finally, the Minority wants the GFA to provide details of Carlos Queiroz’s new contract as Black Stars coach, including how long the agreement runs and the financial commitments involved.
