Vincent Assafuah requested three Ghana-Panama tickets worth $1,350 – Kofi Adams

Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams has disclosed that Vincent Ekow Assafuah, Ranking Member of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, requested three tickets for Ghana’s opening 2026 FIFA World Cup game against Panama.

The disclosure comes amid growing scrutiny of Ghana’s expenditure on its participation in the 2026 World Cup, with Assafuah leading calls for a detailed breakdown of how public funds were used during the tournament.

According to Adams, the tickets were allocated to Assafuah and each had a value of US$450.

“Vincent Assafuah requested three tickets for the Ghana vs Panama game and they were allocated to him. The tickets were valued at $450 each,” Adams said in an interview with TV3.

Adams told Parliament’s Select Committee on Youth and Sports that the government spent about US$1.26 million to secure 2,922 tickets for Ghana’s three group-stage matches against Panama, England and Croatia.

The allocation included 948 tickets for the Panama match, 1,000 for the England game and 974 for the Croatia encounter.

The Minister has explained that the tickets were distributed among supporter groups, Ghanaian diplomatic missions, Ghanaians in the diaspora, the Ghana Students Association, the government delegation and selected GFA officials.

Assafuah has meanwhile demanded a broader reconciliation of the World Cup expenditure, including details of ticket allocations, operational costs and other payments.
