Husband dies in labour room while watching wife give birth

A nurse at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Nigeria has recounted the tragic death of a man who collapsed and died while his wife was giving birth.

The nurse, who was on duty that day, said the couple had arrived at the hospital together and appeared deeply affectionate. The husband later requested to stay with his wife in the labour room.

“They held hands together. Very lovely couple. I kept admiring them,” the nurse recalled.

While his wife was in labour and pushing through the pain, the man was sweating heavily and trying to capture the moment on camera.

“We were focused on the woman when suddenly the man slumped and blacked out,” the nurse said.

The medical team quickly took him out of the labour room. His wife was reportedly unaware of what had happened as the team continued attending to her.

By the time the nurses joined the team at the emergency ward, the man had been pronounced dead. The nurse said he died from a heart attack, which she attributed to a spike in his blood pressure as he watched his wife go through the pain of childbirth.

“What would have been a time of joy for everyone quickly turned to sadness,” she said.

The nurse said she was deeply affected by the incident and cried after learning that the man had died.

“Death comes at any time. It takes good people at moments when you need them around you,” she said.
