'Comical' - Kpebu questions police claim Salomey distributed 'Ghana Jollof' videos

Private legal practitioner, Martin Kpebu, has described as “comical” the police claim that Salomey Awity Baffoe distributed videos of Ghana Jollof in connection with an alleged coup plot.

Kpebu, during an appearance at the Accra High Court on September 23, 2026, questioned what the police meant by the term “distribution”, arguing that content posted on social media can automatically wide range of online followers.

He used TikTok live videos as an example, saying followers can see the content as it is being streamed.

“What do you mean by distribution? When you go on TikTok, when you do it live, don't all your followers see it at once? So what's the meaning of distribution? I mean, come on, it looks a bit comical to have said that she's a distributor of the post,” he said.

Kpebu also supported Salomey’s bail application, saying he did not believe she should have been remanded for as long as she has been.

“I support the application for bail. In actual fact, I don't think she should have been remanded so far based on what we know. She shouldn't have been remanded. Ghana is stronger than that,” he noted.

He said he had no objection to investigations into the alleged case but questioned the circumstances surrounding Salomey’s arrest.

“I’m not against investigating those cases generally, but where there is a problem is where that person is allowed to have said certain things against some high people in society, even including IGP and CID boss.

“When you go and pick the person on a different matter, as citizens, we will not believe you because I'm sure you've all seen videos she's done, all the people she's [Ghana Jollof] also insulted. Then you wait and pick her on this one about saying that there is an alleged coup d'etat, nobody will believe it because that is part of her comics,” he added.

Meanwhile, the High Court in Accra has adjourned the bail application of Salomey Baffoe to September 24, 2026, after the prosecution requested more time to respond to the defence’s application for bail.
