Here is the latest update on the SkyTrain trial

The two former officials of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF) standing trial over the alleged payment of US$2 million for the proposed Accra SkyTrain project have filed their witness statements.

Former GIIF Chief Executive Officer Solomon Asamoah and former Board Chairman Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi filed the statements on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the deadline given by the Accra High Court.

Deputy Attorney General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, shared the update in a social media post on Thursday, September 24.

The filing means the two accused persons are now expected to present their respective accounts in response to the prosecution's case.

The two are standing trial over allegations that US$2 million was paid in connection with the proposed SkyTrain project without the approval of the GIIF board.

The project, which was intended to introduce an elevated rail transport system in Accra, was never constructed.

The prosecution has accused the two former officials of conspiring to cause financial loss of US$2 million to the state in relation to the project.

The case is being heard by Justice Audrey Kocuvie-Tay at the Accra High Court.

The court had earlier extended the deadline for the accused persons to file their witness statements to September 23, 2026, despite applications relating to proceedings before the Supreme Court.
