Salomey Awity Baffoe should sue State if vindicated - Maurice Ampaw

Private legal practitioner, Maurice Ampaw, has criticised the High Court’s decision to deny bail to Salomey Awity Baffoe following her arrest for allegedly distributing videos linked to the controversial social media account Ghana Jollof.

Speaking exclusively to GhanaWeb on Friday, September 25, 2026, he said that she should sue the State if she is eventually cleared of the allegations against her.

Ampaw described the court’s decision as “unfortunate” and said it could send the wrong signal to human rights advocates.

He questioned the basis for denying bail on the grounds that the police were still investigating the case.

“It's unfortunate that the decision of the High Court has sent the wrong signal to every person who is championing human rights because if you deny a person bail for the reason that police are investigating it means that why should they bring them to the court if they have not finished the investigation?

“I think it's unfair, but I believe that the law must take its course, and the woman needs justice, and at the end of the day, if the woman is vindicated, she should sue the state for malicious suspicion,” he said.

Baffoe’s bail application filed by her legal team was declined by the court, citing the ongoing nature of investigations and concerns that evidence could be deleted if she is granted bail.

She still remains in police custody until her next appearance in court.
