Kwesi Pratt slams politicians over unverified claims of cocaine laboratories in Ghana

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr, has criticised politicians who make unverified claims about the existence of cocaine laboratories in Ghana, arguing that such allegations should be reported directly to state security agencies rather than made public without evidence.

In a video shared on X and sighted by GhanaWeb on September 27, 2026, Pratt said he was concerned about claims that drug traffickers had established clandestine laboratories in Ghana and that some government officials were facilitating the movement of narcotics out of the country.

He questioned the basis for publicly making such allegations when the individuals making them could not provide evidence or identify the alleged facilities.

According to him, anyone who receives intelligence suggesting that a cocaine laboratory exists has a responsibility to quietly alert the relevant security agencies for investigation rather than repeat the information publicly as a rumour.

“This is the height of irresponsibility. Because if you have information, and you are not sure of the authenticity of the information, somebody has told you a story, and you don't know whether the story is true or not, do you hold a press conference to repeat that story?” he asked.

Pratt described the practice of circulating unverified information as irresponsible and warned that the media should also exercise greater caution before amplifying such claims.

“Peddling falsehood, putting out unverified information, is a crime, is a criminal offence,” he said.

He further questioned why politicians who claim to possess intelligence about alleged cocaine laboratories would not submit the information directly to security agencies capable of investigating and establishing its authenticity.

Pratt's comments come amid public discussions over allegations that drug traffickers have established laboratories in Ghana for the production of cocaine and that some officials may be facilitating the movement of narcotics out of the country.
