A surgeon at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr Kwadwo Adae, has explained how breast lifts, breast augmentation and other cosmetic procedures can alter the appearance of the body after ageing, childbirth and weight changes.
Speaking in a recent interview on Raw with Roselyn, Dr Adae said breasts naturally change over time as they become heavier, lose fat and begin to sag, a condition medically referred to as ptosis.
He explained that a breast lift involves surgically rearranging the breast tissue to restore a more elevated appearance, although the procedure does not prevent the breasts from sagging again in the future.
“It won't drop as much as it was. But it will drop. A bit,” he said.
Dr Adae further explained that a breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation, which involves increasing the size of the breasts using either the patient’s own fat or an implant.
He said fat removed through liposuction from other parts of the body can be transferred to areas such as the breasts, buttocks, hips, cheeks and even under the eyes.

On breast implants, he said modern implants are designed to minimise adverse reactions from the body, although they can still rupture in some cases and may require removal.
He noted that older implant models were more susceptible to rupture, particularly following trauma, while newer models rarely rupture.
Turning to the increasingly popular ‘mummy makeover,’ Dr Adae said the procedure is typically sought by women who have completed childbirth and want to address changes in their body shape following pregnancy, ageing and weight gain.
He explained that a mummy makeover may involve procedures targeting several parts of the body, including the breasts, abdomen, arms, hips and buttocks, but stressed that the procedures cannot safely be performed all at once.
According to him, a typical liposuction and Brazilian butt lift procedure can take about four to five hours on average, although the duration can be longer depending on the case.
