Ghanaian businessman Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica
David N A Quarcoo, a digital investigations professional who claims to be a confidant of Ghanaian businessman Frederick Kumi, popularly known as Abu Trica, has released footage of an alleged video call with the embattled businessman.
According to David, the video conversation between him and Abu Trica centred on recent allegations that the businessman had mentioned the names of several individuals as accomplices in his romance scam trial in the United States.
David said Abu Trica laughed off the allegations, describing them as fabricated and untrue.
“Since the last court time that Abu Trica went, he hasn’t even seen his lawyer again. I speak to the lawyer three times a week. How can that be a case that we are going through discovery? How can he mention names? This morning, Abu Trica and I were talking about this on a video call, and we were just laughing over the matter,” he said.
The claim comes after viral reports on social media alleged that Abu Trica had mentioned the names of about eight individuals as accomplices in his case, including a Member of Parliament from the Central Region.
The confidant further argued that the case is still at the discovery stage, suggesting that Abu Trica has not reached a point in the proceedings where he would be discussing the case in a manner that could amount to identifying or implicating other individuals.
He explained that Abu Trica has not even been in communication with his lawyer or prosecutors in a manner that, in his view, would support claims that he is providing information about other people allegedly involved in the case.
Abu Trica was extradited to the United States to face charges over his alleged involvement in an $8 million romance scam that allegedly targeted elderly Americans.

His extradition followed an indictment by US authorities, who allege that he was part of a criminal network that used artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create fake identities, build online relationships with victims, and fraudulently obtain money under false pretences.
Abu Trica was extradited in the early hours of Thursday, July 9, 2026, aboard Delta Air Lines Flight DL157.
He departed the Accra International Airport at 9:03 a.m., three minutes behind the scheduled departure time of 9:00 a.m. The flight was expected to arrive at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York at approximately 4:00 p.m. local time.
On July 2, 2026, the High Court in Accra ordered that Abu Trica be surrendered to US authorities to face allegations of his involvement in a romance fraud scheme.
