The decision by Bank of Ghana (BoG) Governor Dr Johnson Asiama to stop serving on the Board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) was due to his busy schedule and does not indicate a disagreement between the two institutions, GoldBod has said.
In a post shared on X on September 28, 2026, GoldBod explained that Dr Asiama nominated the Second Deputy Governor of the BoG, Matilda Asante-Asiedu, to represent him on the GoldBod Board.
BoG Governor reveals resignation from GoldBod Board five months ago
“The fact is that, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana due to his busy schedule, simply nominated a representative, being his second deputy, Mrs. Matilda Asante-Asiedu to represent him on the Board of the GoldBod in accordance with Section 4(e) of the GoldBod Act, 2025 (ACT 1140),” GoldBod stated.
It said the Governor made the nomination on May 11, 2026, in accordance with the GoldBod Act, 2025 (Act 1140).
Section 4(e) of the Act provides for the BoG Governor, or a representative of the Governor not below the rank of Director, to serve on the GoldBod Board.
GoldBod said the arrangement was similar to decisions taken by the Finance Minister and the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources.
The Finance Minister, it noted, nominated Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem to represent him on the Board from the establishment of GoldBod.
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, initially served on the Board himself but later nominated the Ministry’s Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, in January 2026 due to his schedule.
GoldBod stated that Dr Asiama initially chose to serve on the Board himself but later opted to nominate his deputy because of his workload.

It rejected suggestions that his departure from the Board points to problems within the institution or a dispute between GoldBod and the BoG.
The institution further said GoldBod remains a major source of foreign exchange for Ghana and continues to work closely with the Bank of Ghana on a daily basis.
A wrong impression is being created by some people that because the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG) stated at the last MPC meeting, that he “resigned” from the governing Board of the GoldBod five (5) months ago, it means that there is a fight between the BoG and the GoldBod… pic.twitter.com/iohn9d1Vnc
