Gambian delegation arrives for training amid claims of inadequate security arrangements in Accra
A Gambian journalist has raised serious concerns over the treatment of The Gambia national team ahead of Tuesday’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Ghana at the Accra Sports Stadium.
In a strongly worded social media post, the journalist alleged that The Gambia team was not provided with a police escort after arriving at the airport and also travelled from their hotel to the stadium without one.
The journalist further claimed that upon arrival at the Accra Sports Stadium for their final training session, the Gambian delegation was denied access to a dressing room and had to change on the pitch.

The concerns were accompanied by a video showing the Gambian team arriving at the stadium for training, with one official heard expressing frustration over the alleged lack of a police escort.
“When we were coming, we didn't have an escort. This is very bad,” the official said in the video.
The journalist called on the Ghana Football Association and the relevant authorities to provide an explanation and investigate the reports, arguing that both teams should receive equal treatment, security and professional arrangements.
“If you want to win, win with dignity,” the journalist wrote.
The allegations come ahead of a crucial Group C encounter. Ghana are seeking their first points after losing 2-0 to Côte d’Ivoire in their opening qualifier, while The Gambia started their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Somalia.
