Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah
The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has dismissed reports that Minister Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah resigned from the board of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod).
The Ministry described the reports as false, stating that the Minister has neither resigned from the board nor had any disagreement with the institution.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the Ministry said it had taken note of reports circulating in the media and on social media suggesting that Armah-Kofi Buah had left the GoldBod board.

“The Ministry wishes to state categorically that the reports are false and do not reflect the facts,” it said.
According to the Ministry, the Minister initially served on the board in person but nominated the Ministry’s Chief Director, Marcus Haligah, to represent him in January 2026.
It explained that the decision was purely administrative and was necessitated by the Minister’s demanding schedule and responsibilities.
At the time, Armah-Kofi Buah was overseeing responsibilities across two ministries, making it difficult for him to personally attend all GoldBod board meetings and engagements.
The Ministry said the arrangement is permitted under GoldBod’s governance framework, which allows board members to designate representatives to act on their behalf.
It added that a recent clarification from GoldBod had also confirmed the arrangement.
The Ministry further rejected suggestions that the change was linked to a conflict between the Minister and GoldBod.
It said it continues to maintain a good working relationship with GoldBod, citing several areas of collaboration.
The Ghana Geological Survey Authority, for instance, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with GoldBod to intensify mineral exploration.
The Responsible Community Mining Programme (rCOMSDEP) is also working with GoldBod on responsible mining, while GoldBod is collaborating with the Forestry Commission on land reclamation.
The Ministry also noted that GoldBod has supported the National Alternative Employment and Livelihood Programme (NAELP/NAIMOS) with vehicles.

GoldBod said Armah-Kofi Buah remains committed to the government’s agenda of strengthening Ghana’s gold sector, increasing local value retention, promoting responsible mining and ensuring that the country’s mineral resources contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Ministry urged the public and media to rely on official communications from the Ministry and GoldBod on matters relating to the board’s governance and operations.
