Details surrounding the cancellation of Ghana’s international friendly against Morocco have emerged, with the Black Stars reportedly requesting that the fixture be called off due to player unavailability.

The two nations were scheduled to face each other in a friendly on October 4, 2026, in Tangier, Morocco, but the match will no longer take place.

According to the emerging details, Ghana informed the Moroccan authorities that they did not have enough available players to honour the fixture following a number of injuries suffered by members of the squad.

The Ghana Football Association subsequently apologised to the Moroccan Football Federation over the cancellation.

The development comes after Ghana’s difficult start to their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

The Black Stars opened their campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire in Bouaké before suffering another setback at home, losing 4-2 to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

The successive defeats have also come with several injury concerns affecting Ghana’s squad, leaving head coach Carlos Queiroz with limited options ahead of the planned friendly.

The Morocco game was expected to provide Ghana with another opportunity to test the squad against one of Africa’s top sides following their qualifying assignments.

However, with the number of available players reduced by injuries, Ghana opted to communicate their inability to fulfil the fixture.

The Moroccan FA has now accepted the situation, bringing an end to plans for the October 4 encounter in Tangier.
