Ghanaian football coach James Kwasi Appiah has been in the trends on social media following the abysmal performance of the Black Stars in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.

The Black Stars lost 2-0 to Côte d'Ivoire in their first game and went on to suffer a 4-2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Following the two consecutive defeats, Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia lead Group C with six points each, while Ghana and Somalia lie at the bottom with zero points after two games.

Carlos Queiroz reappointed as Black Stars coach

This has sparked anger among Ghanaians who are peeved with the management of the national team by the technical team led by Carlos Queiroz and Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku.

This has led some individuals to make reference to Kwasi Appiah's coaching prowess, with some believing that he is better than current coach Queiroz based on recent performances.

Some users have also slammed GFA President Kurt Okraku for consistently overlooking the current Sudan national team coach due to their alleged personal issues when Appiah was leading the Black Stars.

There are calls for Kwasi Appiah to be given the opportunity to salvage the team from its woes and secure qualification for the 2027 AFCON in an effort to appease the public.

Kwasi Appiah won his first game in charge of Sudan in the qualifiers after they defeated Ethiopia 1-0 and is looking forward to qualifying for the AFCON for the second consecutive time.
