Contractors have moved to site to begin work on a 21,500-square-metre, 160-bed Western North Regional Referral Hospital near Sefwi Wiawso.

Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, announced this in a post shared on Facebook on Wednesday, September 30, 2026.

“Contractors have moved to site to begin work on this 21,500-square-metre, 160-bed Western North Regional Referral Hospital near Sefwi Wiawso,” he stated.

The project is expected to strengthen healthcare delivery in the Western North Region by expanding access to referral and specialised medical services for residents.

The 160-bed facility will serve as a regional referral centre, helping to improve access to healthcare and reduce the need for residents to travel outside the region to seek specialised treatment.

The development forms part of the government’s efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and delivery across the country.

On Friday, September 25, 2026, the Government of Ghana formally handed over the site to a contractor for the construction of a 160-bed Savannah Regional Referral Hospital at Damongo.
