Immigration officer arrested following deaths of three children in car boot

An officer of the Ghana Immigration Service has been arrested in connection with the deaths of three children whose bodies were found in the boot of a vehicle at Koblimahagu Zuo in the Tamale Metropolis.

The children have been identified as Dauda Abdul Aziz, 3, Saani Alsharaf, 5, and Dauda Fadilan, 7.

According to the Northern Regional Police Command in a statement issued on October 5, 2026, the officer’s arrest followed investigations which established that the vehicle in which the three children were found dead belonged to him.

The police said the officer told investigators that the vehicle had been stuck in the mud and had been left there for about five days.

“Preliminary investigation indicates that the vehicle belongs to a personnel of the Ghana Immigration Service, who indicated that it had been stuck in the mud for the past five days. He has since been arrested and being taken to Accra to assist the investigation,” portions of the statement read.

Providing details on how the children were found, the police said they left home at about 8 am on Sunday, October 4, 2026, to attend Islamic classes but did not return home.

A search by community members continued until about 5am on Monday, October 5, 2026, when their bodies were found in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14.

“On 5th October, 2026, police received a complaint that the children allegedly left home for Islamic classes at about 8am on Sunday, October 4, 2026, but did not return home and efforts by community members to locate them proved unsuccessful until at about 5am on Monday, October 5, when their bodies were discovered inside the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson with registration number AS 1770-14,” it said.

Additionally, a preliminary inspection showed that the driver's door and the rear passenger door behind the driver's seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.

The immigration officer has since been taken to Accra to assist with the investigation.

The Inspector-General of Police has also deployed a special team of homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale to support the Northern Regional Police Command.

Meanwhile, the vehicle has been secured for further forensic examination as police work to establish what led to the deaths of the three children.
