L-R: Kurt Okraku, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe, Alhaji Grusah and George Afriyie are sporting personalities
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, has faced growing calls from sports stakeholders and fans to resign from his role following the declining standards of football activities in the country.
After head coach Carlos Queiroz resigned following the Black Stars’ back-to-back defeats to Côte d'Ivoire and The Gambia in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, the GFA has faced backlash over what critics describe as the mishandling of football affairs.
The association has been accused of incompetence in appointing national team coaches, with the Black Stars having had about seven managers during Kurt Okraku’s seven-year tenure in office.

The Ministry of Sports and Recreation, in collaboration with the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has formed a five-member committee to recommend a coach by October 9, 2026.
This article highlights comments from some popular personalities in the sporting fraternity and fans who have publicly called on the GFA President to step down and allow someone else to continue managing the affairs of the association.
Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe
The former President of the GFA indicated that Kurt Okraku has failed woefully in office and should respectfully admit it and leave his role.
Speaking on Eyewitness News on Wednesday, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said the office holder should ultimately decide to leave if he is convinced that he has failed.
“If he feels he has gone wrong, or he feels he’s not given the nation the results that the nation requires, then he himself should advise himself and leave the scene. Nobody should sack him, or nobody should put pressure on him. He should himself decide,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said.
He further cited his own experience, noting that he adopted a similar approach while in office.
“I resigned based on principles,” he stated.
Alhaji Karim Grusah
The King Faisal Football Club owner also added his voice to the calls, noting that he has information about Kurt Okraku’s dealings which he would make known to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation at the right time.
“The GFA president should resign. He should stop the FIFA threats, he’s a liar. I know his secrets; I'll send them to the Ministry,” he said.
George Afriyie
The former GFA Vice President noted that it would be more honourable for Kurt Okraku to resign to save his image, but he doubts that will happen.
“I’m saying that elsewhere, is that not what happens? [Resignation]. If you fail to deliver, you’ll just resign, but it is not typical in Ghanaian DNA. So, for me, I know that will not happen. That’s why I will not waste my time to call him to resign because he won’t resign,” Afriyie said in an interview with Citi News.
Fans
Following the Black Stars' disastrous performance against The Gambia, where the team lost 4-2 at the Accra Sports Stadium, some aggrieved fans lambasted the GFA President, accusing him of “destroying Ghana football.”
Most of them pleaded with Kurt Okraku to resign from his role as the national team continues to perform abysmally, coupled with the dwindling fortunes of the local league.
