Electricity Pole in the Middle of Room: NADMO orders demolition of house over safety concerns

Officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) have ordered the demolition of a single-room structure at Tema Community 24 after discovering that it had been built around an electricity pole.

The unusual structure, captured in footage shared on X, shows the electricity pole standing inside the room, with the building constructed around it.

Reports indicate the structural hazard was uncovered by emergency officials during an inspection.

The owner constructed the residential room directly around an active electricity distribution pole, completely enclosing it so that the high-voltage concrete pillar stood inside the living area.

The building exposed the occupants to electricity hazards.

NADMO and local municipal planning officers issued an immediate warning and structural demolition order to the property owner.

The enforcement is part of a broader crackdown by NADMO and local assemblies against unauthorised developments encroaching on government installations, waterways, and utility buffers across the Tema enclave
