Vincent Ekow Assafuah, MP for Old Tafo
Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has questioned why officials of the National Sports Authority (NSA) were allegedly presented to the United States Embassy under positions they did not officially hold.
Mr Assafuah said a copy of an email signed by the NSA’s Chief Operations Officer, Yaw Gyamfi Kusi, and addressed to the US Embassy raises serious questions about the accuracy of the information provided by the public institution.
According to the Old Tafo MP, the communication introduced several individuals as NSA officials with specific positions, although information available to him suggests they were not occupying those roles at the time.
He identified Fuseini Lukman as having been presented as the Northern Region Coordinator, while Ekow Hayford was listed under Sports Development.
Francis Owusu and Felicia Ahiadome, he said, were also presented as Procurement Officers.
Mr Assafuah said an even more concerning aspect of the correspondence was the identification of Comfort Ahiadome as the Board Secretary of the NSA.
He argued that, at the time the email was sent, the NSA Board did not have an officially appointed Board Secretary.
“Why would officials of a public institution present people to a foreign embassy under titles and positions that they did not legitimately hold?” Mr Assafuah asked in a Facebook post.
He further pointed out that Mavis Quainoo was, at the time, serving in an acting capacity as Secretary to the NSA Board.
The MP’s concerns centre on whether the information contained in the email accurately reflected the official positions of the individuals named and why such designations were communicated to a foreign diplomatic mission.
The development has raised questions about the internal administrative processes of the NSA and the basis on which officials were identified in correspondence with the US Embassy.
Mr Assafuah has therefore called into question the circumstances surrounding the email and why individuals were allegedly assigned titles that did not correspond with their official positions.
