Gender Minister steps in as Nana Akua Addo faces alleged domestic abuse

The Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has visited fashion personality Nana Akua Addo and her family following reports of alleged domestic abuse, assuring them of the government’s support as investigations into the matter continue.

Dr Lartey said the immediate priority was to protect Nana Akua and her children from further emotional distress, particularly as the Police work to establish the facts surrounding the reported incident.

During her visit, the Minister engaged Nana Akua and members of her family and assured them that the Ministry would provide the necessary psychosocial and social welfare support to help them cope with the situation.

She stressed that children, in particular, should not be forced to bear the consequences of conflicts or violence involving adults.

According to her, the family must be provided with a safe and supportive environment while the appropriate institutions handle the matter.

Dr Lartey said Nana Akua and the children would receive the necessary assistance to safeguard their emotional wellbeing, safety and dignity throughout the process.

“While the Police continue their investigations, our focus must remain on the wellbeing and protection of Nana Akua and the children,” the Minister said, stressing the need for measures to prevent further emotional distress.

She added that the Ministry would engage Nana Akua’s husband, who was unavailable during the visit, as part of efforts to ensure that all persons affected by the situation receive the appropriate support.

Dr Lartey assured Nana Akua and the children that the Ministry would continue working with the Police and other relevant institutions to protect their welfare while ensuring that due process is followed.

The visit comes amid public attention surrounding reports of alleged domestic abuse involving the family, with the Ministry positioning itself to provide social welfare and psychosocial assistance as the matter proceeds through the appropriate channels.
