Tate Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong
The father of late Berekum Chelsea player Dominic Frimpong has made explosive allegations over his son’s death, claiming the 20-year-old was not killed by a gunshot during the robbery attack on the club’s team bus.
In an interview with Fakye TV, Nana Frimpong says he found no evidence of a gunshot wound on his son’s body and believes the circumstances surrounding his death point to something more sinister.
“My son was not shot; I believe he was killed. There were no signs or evidence of gunshot wounds on his body,” he said.
He went further to accuse Berekum Chelsea of using his son as a “sacrifice” in their battle to avoid relegation.
“I believe Berekum Chelsea used my son as a sacrifice in their fight to avoid relegation. Even if they offer you GH₵30 billion, don’t allow your son to go and play for Berekum Chelsea. They will kill him,” he alleged.
Dominic died in April 2026, after armed men reportedly attacked the Berekum Chelsea team bus on the Ahyiresu–Kwame Dwumor Sreso road in the Nyinahin District as the team returned from a Ghana Premier League match against FC Samartex.
Police said six armed men, three carrying pump-action guns, attacked the bus carrying about 30 players and officials.
The attackers opened fire as the driver attempted to escape, while another victim was reportedly robbed of GH₵4,500.
Two suspects were subsequently arrested.
The GFA and police have previously maintained that Frimpong died following the armed attack, while investigations into the incident continued.
