Political scientist Dr Kwame Asah Asante of the University of Ghana says the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) election of Kojo Bamba as First Vice Chairman reflects concerns about protecting the party’s ballots during elections.

Speaking on TV3’s The Key Points on Saturday, October 10, Dr Asah Asante said security was an important consideration for NPP delegates, but warned that it would not be the only factor determining the party’s performance in the 2028 general election.

“The NPP voted for Kojo Bamba because they have concerns about the protection of their ballots on election day.

‘Security is very important, but the economy and unemployment will determine the outcome,” he said.

Bamba, whose real name is Kwadwo Fosu Boadu, won the First Vice Chairman position at the party’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi on October 3, 2026, polling 3,116 votes to finish ahead of 12 other aspirants.

He campaigned on protecting party members and ballots at polling stations and collation centres.

His election has drawn attention partly because of his past leadership of Delta Force, a pro-NPP vigilante group.

In 2017, members of the group stormed the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council and forcibly removed a regional security coordinator from his office, leading to arrests and court proceedings.
