The Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, was at the receiving end of a light moment shared by President John Dramani Mahama at one of his engagements as part of his two-day Bono Regional Thank You Tour on Saturday, September 10, 2026.

The president mocked Mahama Ayariga’s proficiency in the Twi dialect, using his recently disclosed marriage to the Member of Parliament for Sunyani West, Millicent Yeboah Amankwah.

He asserted that the Local Government Minister, who is also a Member of Parliament for Bawku Central, is now becoming fluent in the Twi dialect because of his wife.

“If I’m to score the proficiency of the people who spoke Twi here today, then I have to say that my brother Ayariga has done a bit well.

“As he (Ayariga) said, the wife he married recently, the daughter of Bono, he has turned her into a teacher in bed,” Mahama said before bursting into laughter.

He added, “Just as he (Ayariga) said, he is learning the language, little by little.”

The President then turned his attention to the Minister of Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, whom he challenged to marry a woman from the Bono Region if he wants to become fluent in the Twi dialect.

“We are left with Roads Minister Agbodza; if you marry a woman from Bono, you would speak Twi,” he joked.

Mahama Ayariga, who spoke before the President’s remarks, had bragged about how he is becoming fluent in Twi because of his marriage to the Sunyani West MP after he was challenged to speak in the language at the event.

“I married a woman from Bono and I have now started Twi lessons. I’m now in class one. My big brother (President Mahama) started learning Twi long ago; now he is at the master’s level.

“I’m only in primary school. And I would speak my primary school Twi and I know you would understand me,” he said.
