The Member of Parliament for Old Tafo, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has criticised the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, for failing to cross-check the list of names submitted to the United States Embassy in connection with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

In an earlier interview with TV3, Kofi Adams disclosed that he received a list of 90 people expected to perform various roles but did not cross-check the names as they were submitted by the National Sports Authority (NSA).

The minister stated that he could not be blamed for the situation because he trusted the NSA to conduct due diligence before submitting the list.

However, in an interview with the same media outlet on October 12, 2026, Assafuah lambasted the minister for failing to verify the names, particularly after it emerged that some individuals had allegedly been assigned incorrect roles in the information submitted to the US Embassy.

The Member of Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee described Kofi Adams as the “incompetent minister” he had ever seen and called for drastic action to be taken.

“And you fail to do the double-checking, the verification, the cross-checking to be sure that indeed all 90 people who were submitted to you are indeed staff of the NSA or affiliates of the NSA, then you are the most incompetent minister that I have ever seen. No, hold on. That is why I'm laying the blame at his doorstep, okay? That he is either complicit or negligent.

“You are just telling us that you are just a conveyor belt. How incompetent can you be when you have been given a public institution to head? There have been wrong signs, red flags raised by the US Embassy that that institution has already given you names or has already given the US Embassy names that do not exist,” he told TV3.

Vincent Assafuah further recounted the case of some individuals who he said had been misrepresented in efforts to secure visas for the tournament.

“I am further demonstrating to you, among the 90 people I have personally visited, some of these people whose names were found on the ninety list. I have actually put a video out which I think you have seen. One is Mr. Alex Mensah; I have shared that video with Shadrach. Mr. Alex Mensah says that his two sons, Theophilus Danso and Samuel Okete, paid ten thousand dollars on behalf of those people. Those names are found in the Ninety list that you, the minister, ferried to the US Embassy,” he added.
