The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has introduced six Ghanaian languages on its computer-based driving theory test platform.

The Chief Executive Officer, Julius Neequaye Kotey, made this known when he took his turn at the Government Accountability Series on October 12, 2026.

He explained that the move is aimed at making the driver licensing process more accessible and ensuring applicants understand road safety rules.

“I'm happy to report that DVLA has introduced six local languages into its computer-based tests, we call it CBT, a platform to assist applicants who cannot read or write in English.

The translation software allows applicants to take mandatory driving tests in Twi, Ga, Ewe, Dagbani, Nzema, and Hausa,” he said.

Kotey said the initiative would help remove language barriers and enable applicants to demonstrate their understanding of road signs, traffic regulations and safe driving practices.

He added that the Authority was working to expand the number of local languages available on the platform to reach more prospective drivers across the country.

Kotey also announced that the DVLA had introduced SMS reminders to alert licence holders about upcoming renewal deadlines.

Under the system, customers receive an initial reminder one month before their licences expire and another two weeks before the deadline, provided their registered mobile numbers remain unchanged.

He said the Authority was also developing a similar system to notify vehicle owners when their roadworthiness certificates were due for renewal.
