Takyi Arhin is Aduana FC's General Manager
The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has condemned comments by Aduana FC General Manager Takyi Arhin about former Black Stars captain André Ayew’s potential Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency ambition.
Arhin suggested that Ayew would benefit more from investing in businesses in his hometown of Paga, including goat farming, than pursuing a career in football administration.
Speaking on Space FM in Sunyani, the football administrator argued that success in football leadership requires strong relationships and administrative experience.
In a statement issued on October 12, the PFAG described the comments directed at Ayew, a member of the union, as “unacceptable and disparaging”.
The association acknowledged that people had the right to express opinions on football administration but stressed the difference between constructive criticism and personal ridicule.
The PFAG highlighted Ayew’s contributions to Ghana football, noting that he is the country’s second-most capped international player, a multiple FIFA World Cup participant and captain of the Black Satellites team that won the 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The union also criticised the reference to Ayew’s northern roots, warning that regional stereotypes had no place in Ghana football.
“Ghana football belongs to every Ghanaian, irrespective of where they come from North, South, East or West,” the statement said.
The PFAG added that football leadership should focus on ideas, competence, vision and service rather than personal attacks.
It urged the public to assess Ayew on his ideas, experience and contribution to the game, rather than his background.
“We can disagree without disrespect. We can debate without stereotyping. Ghana football must unite us, not divide us,” the statement concluded.
