President John Dramani Mahama and the wife Lordina
President John Dramani Mahama has recounted how his wife, First Lady Lordina Mahama, influenced his decision to leave the Presbyterian Church and join the Assemblies of God Church.
Sharing the story of his religious journey during an event shared on social media, Mahama said his eventual membership of the Assemblies of God Church appeared to be part of a divine plan, considering the different Christian backgrounds he and his wife came from.
According to the President, Lordina was born into a Seventh-day Adventist family, while he was baptised in the Presbyterian Church.
However, their religious journey took a new turn after they got married and moved into their first home at New Road in Madina, Accra.

Mahama explained that his wife had a friend, Francisca who attended the Assemblies of God Church. With no Seventh-day Adventist church available in the immediate vicinity, Lordina began accompanying her friend to church on Sundays.
“She started following Francisca to church. And that's how she became a member of the Assemblies of God Church,” he recounted.
The President said he continued attending the Presbyterian Church until the couple had to decide which church they would attend together.
Reflecting on the decision, Mahama humorously acknowledged his wife's influence, saying, “And you know the power of women. I lost the battle.”
“But I pleasantly lost the battle, because I joined the Assemblies of God Church,” he added.
