Packing plantain into sacks can bring in as much as GH¢1,000 a day
For some workers in Asante Akyem Agogo, one of Ghana’s major plantain-producing hubs, packing plantain into sacks can bring in as much as GH¢1,000 a day, depending on the number of sacks they manage to fill.
In a video shared on X on October 13, 2026, some plantain packers in the area opened up about their daily workload, revealing that they can fill between 40 and 50 sacks on a good day.
The workers said they are paid GH¢20 for every sack they fill, meaning that packing 50 sacks could earn them GH¢1,000 in a day.
Agogo to get plantain processing factory
“We are able to pack 40–50 sacks every day, and each sack we fill costs GH¢20,” one of the packers said.
Another also disclosed that he combines the work with farming, explaining that he had gone to work on his farm before returning to pack plantain into sacks.
Their accounts offer a glimpse into the alternative income routes behind the booming plantain business in Agogo, where workers play a role in preparing the produce from the farm gates to commercial centers in big cities.
