President John Dramani Mahama has inspected progress of work on a poultry meat processing factory under construction in Bechem, in the Ahafo Region, as part of efforts to achieve self-sufficiency in poultry production.
The facility, being developed by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, is designed to process 6,000 chickens per hour when completed.
In a Facebook post shared on October 13, 2026, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu disclosed that the contractor had assured the government that construction works would be completed in March 2027.

According to him, the project has attained 50 percent completion, with all equipment already procured and ready for installation once the buildings are completed.
The factory is expected to support Ghana's poultry industry by providing processing capacity to handle locally produced chicken, as the government pursues measures to reduce reliance on imported poultry products.
The project forms part of broader efforts to strengthen domestic poultry production, improve the processing of locally raised birds and promote self-sufficiency in the poultry sector.
