Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah and the mother of the late Baba Amando presenting the trophy
Team Kona defeated their rivals, Tano Odumasi, by 3-2 to win a friendly football match between the two communities in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency of the Ashanti Region over the weekend.
Kona lifted the trophy and received a cash prize after emerging victorious in the keenly contested encounter, which brought together the two communities to promote unity and sportsmanship.
The match was organised by Ghanaian media personality Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah, who is also seeking to represent the constituency in Parliament.
The event formed part of activities marking his birthday and was organised as a farewell football match.
The game was held in honour of the late Baba Amando, a native of the community who lost his life and was regarded as one of the best footballers in the area.
As part of activities marking his birthday over the weekend, Okatakyie Afrifa-Mensah also visited several communities, interacting with residents and visiting churches, mosques and tourist attractions in the constituency.
He used the opportunity to call on investors to support the development of the area.
Speaking at the event, Okatakyie expressed concern over what he described as the lack of basic social amenities in several communities within the constituency.
He noted that, “despite the sitting Member of Parliament having served for more than 10 years, residents in many communities continued to complain about inadequate access to essential facilities, including potable water and public toilet facilities.”
Okatakyie pledged to do everything within his power to address these challenges and improve living conditions for residents across the constituency.
