Multimedia sports journalist Muftawu Nabila, who broke the news about the 2026 World Cup visa scandal, has revealed that the number of victims involved in the case has increased significantly.

According to him, information gathered from sources close to the investigation suggests that the number of victims has risen from the initially reported 90 to more than 180.

He explained that some figures were initially underreported but have since emerged as the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service continues its investigations.

How a report to President Mahama led to Ampofo Ankrah’s suspension

“More details have emerged as police continue to investigate. Some figures were under-declared. Sources say defrauded individuals are more than 180. Still gathering more and will share later,” Muftawu Nabila wrote on his X page on October 15, 2026.

This comes amid growing scrutiny of alleged visa facilitation arrangements involving the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) and the National Sports Authority (NSA).

The Minority in Parliament has raised concerns over the arrangements, including allegations that some applicants were charged between US$7,000 and US$14,000 for visa assistance.

President John Dramani Mahama has directed Yaw Ampofo Ankrah to step aside as Director-General of the NSA while the police investigate the allegations.
