Embattled headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School
The Association of Women Lawyers, Ghana (AWLA Ghana), has called on the government and Parliament to establish a National Sexual Offenders Register to protect schoolgirls and prevent sexual abuse in educational institutions.
In a press statement issued on October 15, 2026, the association said recent reports of alleged sexual abuse at Obuasi Senior High Technical School had highlighted concerns about how complaints were handled and how students were protected.
AWLA Ghana said the proposed register should help identify persons convicted of sexual offences, particularly those against children, and guide recruitment and background checks in schools and other institutions serving children.
