Obuasi SHTS headmaster has been interdicted as sexual abuse probe continues
The Obuasi East Education Director, Kwabena Owusu Nketia, has presented findings from a three-week investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High and Technical School (SHTS), Abdullai Zakari.
Presenting the report at the Adansihene’s palace, on October 16, 2026, Nketia said the committee invited 49 people, including teaching and non-teaching staff and students, as part of its inquiry.
He said 26 students were expected to participate, but only nine appeared before the committee.
“We used three weeks to examine the case. We invited 49 individuals, out of which 32 honoured the invitation. They included 18 teachers, three non-teaching staff and 26 students. Out of the 26 students, only nine appeared,” he said.
Explaining why the other students did not attend, he said, "For those who didn't come, their parents did not allow them. The others were influenced by some teachers not to appear before the committee. That is why only nine appeared.”
According to the director, the investigation focused on allegations of sexual misconduct and harassment.
“None of the students confirmed that the headmaster had sexually harassed any student or slept with them,” he said.
Nketia also recounted some of the accounts presented to the committee, including a student's description of an alleged incident involving a massaging machine.
“Some of the students said the headmaster used a massaging machine on her legs, and that was her definition of sexual assault,” he stated.

He further referred to an account in which a student reportedly mentioned being kissed on the cheek, as well as a separate allegation of sexual harassment involving the headmaster’s husband.
“One said the headmaster gave her a kiss,” he recounted.
Nketia said the committee invited one female student who alleged that the headmaster raped when he asked her to bring food from the dining hall to his bungalow.
“We invited her because of the intelligence we gathered,to find out if indeed she was the student who takes food to the headmaster. The matron said the headmaster doesn’t want anyone to collect food for him because there was one instance a driver took his food to his bingalow and the headmaster was angry, but when we invited this student she declined to attend,” he said.
He continued: “We realised that she was lying, because she said the husband assaulted her whenever she takes food to him.”
Abdulai has been accused by about 14 female students of sexual misconduct in an upcoming documentary by investigative journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni. The Ghana Education Service (GES) has since interdicted him.
