Afia Birago of Oyoko has appealed to her former partner, Richard Agya Sei, to give her a fair share of the property they acquired during their 18-year relationship.
The former couple, who have three children together, separated following disagreements over Richard’s debts, domestic issues and their jointly built three-bedroom house.
Afia, who initiated the separation, said her partner’s persistent debts made life unbearable after they completed their house, forcing her to leave with their children and move to her mother’s home.
Speaking on the Obra Show on Nyhira FM, she explained that creditors frequently visited their home to demand money from Richard, creating tension in their relationship.
“We built a house together, but his attitude changed afterwards. Every day, people came to collect money he owed. I couldn’t stand it anymore. One mallam even called me from Accra and warned me to be careful because my husband’s debts could land us in trouble. That was when I left with the children to my mother’s house,” she recounted.
Although Richard has allocated one room in their three-bedroom house to her, Afia believes the arrangement is inadequate, particularly after learning that he intends to marry another woman despite their 18 years together without formal marriage.
Richard, however, accused Afia of neglecting her responsibilities during their relationship, claiming that her behaviour made life difficult for him.

“My wife would not communicate with me, denied me sex, refused to wash my clothes, and sometimes would not eat the food she prepared for me and the children,” he lamented.
He said the situation compelled him to travel for some time to recover emotionally and put his life in order.
According to him, he returned to find that Afia had left the house.
Richard added that he had sent elders to plead with her to return, but their efforts proved unsuccessful.
He further disclosed that Afia had rented out the room he allocated to her, questioning why she continued to demand more despite the arrangement.
However, Richard agreed to give Afia an additional room in their jointly built house.
