Alexander Afenyo-Markin (L) and Sammy Gyamfi
Minority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin has filed fresh lawsuits at the Accra High Court against the Chief Executive of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), Sammy Gyamfi, and the Chief Executive of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei, over alleged defamatory statements.
The fresh suits follow legal proceedings involving Afenyo-Markin and the two public officials over statements they allegedly made about him.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Afenyo-Markin’s solicitor, Paa Kwesi Abaidoo, said a new writ, Suit No. GJ/0061/2027, had been filed at the Accra High Court against Adjei.
The filing followed the discontinuance of an earlier suit against the NEIP Chief Executive at the Achimota Circuit Court on Tuesday morning.
According to the statement, the fresh action concerns alleged defamatory statements made by Adjei on Peace FM.
Abaidoo further disclosed that another writ, Suit No. GJ/0045/2027, had been filed at the Accra High Court on Thursday, October 15, 2026, against Sammy Gyamfi.
The suit against Gyamfi relates to alleged defamatory statements made during the Government Accountability Series and on Joy FM’s Newsfile programme.
The solicitor said the fresh suits had been filed in accordance with the court’s latest interpretation of the rules, despite the legal team’s disagreement with an earlier High Court decision setting aside a previous writ filed on behalf of Afenyo-Markin.
“Although we disagree with the High Court’s earlier decision setting aside our client’s previous writ, this new writ has been issued against the Defendants in accordance with the Court’s latest interpretation of the rules,” the statement said.
The statement concluded with the remark: “The Mills of Justice Grind Slowly but with Great SURETY.”
The earlier suit Afenyo-Markin filed against Sammy Gyamfi for calling him an extortionist was thrown out by the court.
In that suit, the Minority Leader sought the following reliefs:
a. General damages for libel;
b. Aggravated damages;
c. Exemplary damages;
d. An order directing the defendants to publish a full, unconditional and unequivocal retraction of the defamatory statements;
e. An order directing the defendants to publish a full, unconditional and unequivocal public apology to the plaintiff;
f. An order directing that the retraction and apology be published and/or broadcast with substantially the same prominence and reach as the original publication;
g. An order directing the defendants to cause the retraction and apology to be broadcast on JoyNews and published on the relevant electronic and social media platforms through which the defamatory publication was disseminated;
h. An order of perpetual injunction restraining the defendants, their servants, agents, assigns and/or any persons acting under their authority from further publishing the defamatory words or any words to the same or substantially similar effect concerning the plaintiff;
i. Costs of fifteen million Ghana cedis (GH¢15,000,000.00) as compensation thereof;
j. Costs, including legal costs; and
k. Any further or other reliefs as the Honourable Court may deem fit.
