Anthony Baffoe is a former player of the Black Stars
Former Ghana defender Anthony Baffoe has withdrawn from the committee responsible for selecting the next permanent Black Stars head coach, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has confirmed.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum disclosed that committee chairman Fred Pappoe informed the association’s Executive Council (EXCO) of Baffoe’s decision during a meeting last Thursday.
Baffoe was among five members appointed to the panel, which is chaired by Pappoe and includes former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, lawyer Agbesi Dzakpasu and high-performance specialist Faisal Chibsah.
Speaking on Max FM, Asante Twum said the committee had continued its assignment with four members following Baffoe’s withdrawal.

“The chairman of the search committee, Fred Pappoe, confirmed to the Executive Council that Anthony was not part of the committee. This is based on the last meeting they held, which was last week Thursday, which I was present for,” Asante Twum said.
He, however, did not disclose why the former international decided to step aside.
“There was no reason given. All he said was that Tony had withdrawn. He mentioned that the four of them have been doing the job since they were sworn into office.”
The committee was established jointly by the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation following Carlos Queiroz’s departure after Ghana’s poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The Black Stars suffered consecutive defeats against Ivory Coast and The Gambia in their opening two matches, increasing pressure on the team to turn around its campaign.
Meanwhile, the GFA and the Sports Ministry have appointed an interim technical team led by Kim Lars Björkegren to oversee Ghana’s upcoming fixtures.
Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram will serve as assistant coaches, with Fatawu Dauda taking charge of goalkeeping.
The interim team is expected to lead Ghana in their November double-header against Somalia as the search for a permanent successor to Queiroz continues.
