Daniel Fenyi, Head of Public Relations at the Ghana Education Service (GES), has come under public criticism after making controversial remarks about a newly posted nursing mother and teacher who complained about poor working conditions, including a bad road network.

Fenyi reportedly use his personal social media account to respond to the teacher’s emotional video, in which she described the difficulties she faces at her new post, drawing attention to the poor state of the roads and the challenging conditions under which she works.

However, his response has sparked controversy, particularly over a remark in which he described the teacher as “perhaps even a single mother” — a comment that has been widely criticised as derogatory and unrelated to the concerns she raised.

The GES PRO also questioned what would happen if the Service decided to “obey your instructions”, a statement that critics could interpret as intimidating in the context of the teacher’s complaint.

The remarks triggered a backlash on social media, with users questioning the appropriateness of a public relations official’s response to a teacher raising concerns about her working environment.

Within about an hour, Fenyi reportedly deleted the controversial post following the online reactions. However, screenshots had already been taken and continued to circulate, keeping the issue in the public domain.

The controversy has renewed attention on how public institutions and their representatives respond to complaints from workers, particularly those drawing attention to difficult conditions in underserved communities.

As the head of public relations at the GES, Fenyi’s response has also raised questions about the tone and professionalism expected of officials communicating on behalf of a public institution, even when using personal social media accounts.

The teacher’s complaint centred on the challenges of working in an area with poor road infrastructure and difficult living and working conditions. The ensuing exchange, however, has shifted public attention towards the response she received.

The circumstances surrounding the exchange, including the teacher’s specific posting location and whether the GES has formally responded to the concerns raised, remain unclear from the information available.
