Scary scenes as part of high-rise building in Accra collapses

Scary scenes unfolded at Spanner, a suburb of Accra, on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, after part of a high-rise building under construction near the famous Villagio Hotel collapsed.

A viral video of the incident captured the commotion as part of the structure, which appeared to be an extension of the Villagio Hotel, gave way.

The footage showed massive concrete blocks tumbling down as onlookers scrambled to safety.

Loud sounds could be heard coming from the building moments before the debris began falling.

A man recording the incident could be heard saying, “The building dey collapse. The side of the building is falling off.”

It remains unclear whether workers were on site at the time of the collapse.

No casualties have so far been reported by the authorities.

Strong winds ahead of this afternoon’s rainfall have caused parts of the newly constructed Villaggio Apartment building, which is still under construction at Airport Residential Area, to break off from the top of the structure.
