Keta (Volta Region), 29, Sept. Global Help Ghana, a Swedish based non- governmental organisation (NGO) and Star Hope International, a local NGO, today donated items worth five million cedis to the Keta Government Hospital. The items include beds, mattresses, patient lifter, wheel chairs, clutches, a computer and a table top refrigerator. Mr Henry Bronni Amponsah, president of Global Help Ghana, who presented the items, said the NGOs would now shift their donations from the urban to the rural areas. He said this would help rural hospitals to cut down the cost of caring for patients, saying that ''it is their contribution to the government's efforts of achieving health for all by the year 2000''. Mr Larry Kumassah, the hospital administrator, expressed appreciation for the donations. He said with the hospital now being rehabilitated, it would require more equipment and hoped the NGO's would come to their aid in the future. Miss Doris Hlorgbe, the acting principal nursing officer, praised the donors for the patient lifter, saying it would relieve nurses who often have to appeal to relatives for assistance towards lifting patients from stretchers to hospital beds.
