A Ghanaian man based in Dubai, Philip Asumang, is demanding GH¢100,000 in compensation from his former fiancée, Florence, after she allegedly sold a house he built on land belonging to her mother while he was working abroad.

Philip, who appeared on Oyerepa Afutuo, a popular programme on Oyerepa TV that addresses domestic and relationship disputes, on October 22, 2026, narrated how his relationship with Florence began and eventually ended in a dispute over the ownership of the property.

According to him, he met Florence through her mother, popularly known as Maa Vic, in 2020, when he was selling bread at Suame in the Ashanti Region.

He explained that Maa Vic, who was also involved in selling some of his bread, became his friend and subsequently offered to introduce him to one of her daughters for marriage.

Philip recounted that Maa Vic once invited him to her house and asked him to choose any of her daughters as a potential wife. However, he was unable to make a choice at the time.

He said the woman later contacted him and informed him that she had selected one of her daughters, Florence, for him, after which they began communicating.

As their friendship developed, Philip decided to surprise Florence with food and other gifts on her birthday.

He subsequently proposed marriage to her but Florence initially declined, indicating that she was not interested in a romantic relationship with him.

Despite her response, Philip said Florence's mother assured him that she would speak to her daughter about accepting his proposal.

He explained that they eventually entered into a relationship, after which Maa Vic offered them a portion of her land to build a house whenever they had the financial means.

Philip further disclosed that Florence later informed him that her mother had met a travel agent at church who could assist him in securing an opportunity to travel abroad.

With the assistance of the agent, he eventually travelled to Dubai, where he began working and sending money to Ghana for the construction of a house on the land provided by Florence's mother.

However, after the house had been built, Florence informed him that she was no longer interested in continuing their relationship.

Following the development, Philip said Maa Vic proposed dividing the land between him and her daughter, allowing him to retain the portion on which he had constructed the house while Florence would take another portion.

“The mother told me that if that is the case, then she would divide the land into two so I take my house and her daughter takes a portion of the land for herself,” he said.

He claimed that he subsequently received a call from Maa Vic informing him that Florence had sold the house.

Upon receiving the news, Philip demanded GH¢100,000 as compensation and returned to Ghana to resolve the matter.

“What I need right now is that I need my GH¢100,000 that I spent on the project from them, “ he added.

However, he said that during a meeting to discuss the dispute, Florence's mother unexpectedly claimed that he owed her money.

Philip also revealed that throughout their relationship, Florence had insisted that she would not engage in sexual relations with him until they were officially married.

He maintained that he respected her decision and that they never had sexual relations during their one-year stay they spent together before he travelled abroad.

He further claimed to have spent more than GH¢100,000 on the relationship and the construction of the house.

Meanwhile, Florence, who was contacted during the programme to respond to the allegations, confirmed that she had informed Philip that she was no longer interested in their relationship.

Explaining her decision to sell the property, Florence claimed that her family had previously lent Philip GH¢12,000 to facilitate his travel to Dubai.

She said the family needed money to support her younger sister's education, which contributed to the decision to sell the property.

Florence, however, indicated that she was willing to refund part of the proceeds from the sale to Philip after deducting what she considered to be the value of her share of the land.

“For the money, I will give it to him because I have indicated that earlier but the land that the house is on is mine, so I need part of the money from it after deducting the money that we borrowed from him.”

Philip is now seeking GH¢100,000 in compensation from Florence and her mother over the sale of the property.
