The internet has erupted with reactions after an American pastor and his wife publicly introduced a second wife to their congregation, announcing that they are now living in a polygynous marriage which they say is “the will of God.”

In a video that has since gone viral, the pastor’s first wife told the congregation that she wanted to formally introduce her “sister in marriage,” revealing that her husband had taken a second wife.

“I want to share that Prophet and I, we are living even right now in what we will call a religious marriage. My husband, Prophet, he has a second wife. Y’all know her. Y’all love her. Y’all benefit from her ministry every week,” she said before introducing Minister Shakeyla as “Prophet’s wife and my sister in marriage,” the pastor’s first wife addressed.

Addressing the congregation, Minister Shakeyla acknowledged that many people would have questions but insisted that the arrangement was God’s plan.

“Let’s address the elephant in the room… It is amazing to know that this is the will of God. I have not been slighted not one bit. We ARE a family. We don’t walk around like individuals fighting, beefing, but this is a family dynamic in the image of what God wants to put in the earth,” she said.

She further claimed that people from different parts of the United States had reached out to them, saying they also live in similar family structures but had been rejected by churches because of their beliefs.

“There’s been people who’ve been kicked out of churches because they live this life and they don’t have anywhere to worship… but God’s word is real,” she added.

Minister Shakeyla also clarified that despite being married to the pastor, she was not assuming a pastoral role.

“I’m still Minister Shakeyla. I’m not a pastor. I’m just here to help, to submit to Prophet, her husband, and then help her wherever I can,” she added

The pastor then disclosed another revelation, telling the congregation that his marriage to Minister Shakeyla was not recent.

“One more thing I want to add: Shakeyla and I, in one more week, it’ll be three years we’ve been married,” he said

The announcement has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many users questioning the couple’s interpretation of scripture, while others defended their right to practice what they describe as a biblical model of family.
