Member of Parliament, Mavis Nkansah-Boadu
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executives in Afigya Sekyere East have publicly apologised to Agonamanhene, Obirikomfo Anokye Boakye II, over a protocol breach that occurred in an invitation letter while strongly defending the character and respect for tradition of the area's Member of Parliament, Mavis Nkansah-Boadu.
In a statement issued on Monday, October 26, 2026, in response to concerns raised by the Agona Traditional Council regarding the MNB Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament, the constituency executives described as regrettable the error that referred to Agonamanhene as "Chief" instead of "Paramount Chief."
The executives accepted responsibility for the mistake, stating that it was a clerical error and not an intentional act of disrespect towards the Paramount Chief or the Agona Traditional Council.
"We deeply regret this inadvertent error and assure Agonamanhene and the Agona Traditional Council that it was entirely unintentional," the statement noted, while offering what it described as an unreserved apology.
The apology comes amid concerns that have recently strained relations between the MP and the traditional authority, particularly over issues surrounding traditional protocol and Nkansah-Boadu's absence from Agonamanhene's enstoolment ceremony. Addressing the matter, the constituency executives sought to dispel suggestions that the MP had shown disregard for the traditional leadership.
According to the statement, Nkansah-Boadu was represented at the enstoolment by party executives, family members, a former District Chief Executive and the Presiding Member of the Sekyere South Municipal Assembly.
The statement further indicated that customary items, including drinks, water and schnapps, were presented on her behalf as gestures of goodwill and respect.
The executives argued that while the MP was unable to attend in person, her absence should not be misconstrued as disrespect for the stool or traditional authority.
In a further effort to demonstrate the MP's commitment to maintaining cordial relations with the traditional leadership, the statement revealed that Nkansah-Boadu made two separate attempts to visit Agonamanhene after the enstoolment ceremony to personally pay her respects.
Both attempts, according to the executives, were unsuccessful.
The statement also mounted a strong defence of the MP's character, describing her as a leader who has consistently demonstrated integrity, humility and respect for traditional institutions.
The constituency executives stated that having worked closely with her for several years, they could confidently attest to her deep regard for culture, custom and traditional authority, adding that reverence for traditional institutions remains one of her core values.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized the MNB Inter-Senior High School Football Tournament as a key youth development initiative supported by the MP. The executives said the competition was established to provide recreational opportunities for students while creating pathways for talented young footballers to be discovered by scouts.
Although the statement defended the MP against allegations of disrespect, it depicted a reconciliatory action rather than confrontation.
It made repeated references to the importance of traditional leadership, cultural heritage, peace and community development and underscored what observers describe as an attempt by the party leadership to ease tensions and restore harmony between the political and traditional establishments in the constituency.
The executives reaffirmed their confidence in Mavis Nkansah-Boadu and their commitment to maintaining a cordial working relationship with Agonamanhene and the Agona Traditional Council in the interest of peace, unity and development.
