Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey is the Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection
Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has disclosed that seven families of alleged victims of the Obuasi Senior High School (SHTS) sex scandal have declared their intention to pursue legal action over the case.
According to them, their wards have been receiving threats, while others are either being blackmailed or intimidated by some persons linked to the issue.

Addressing the media during a visit to the school following its reopening, on October 26, 2026, Dr Lartey said the government had begun working with National Security to identify those allegedly threatening and blackmailing the families and to protect the identities of the alleged victims whose names have been mentioned in circulating audio recordings and videos.
“We have taken some steps to work with national security to pull down those audios and videos and if possible, the ones that mentioned their full names and put those ones down so that they will feel safe and protected but I can assure you that we are making progress on pressing charges,” she said.
According to the minister, the process of pressing charges has started, but the government is proceeding cautiously because the alleged threats are coming from different sources.
“We've commenced that process. I don't want to give details because their threats are centered around that, and it is not just political. Threats are coming from all angles,” she stated.
The minister explained that threats had made some families reluctant to report their concerns publicly, although they were willing to support the legal process from behind the scenes.
“It's too much for them and so they will prefer to support the case in running but not to show up to report,” she added.
She stressed that protecting the alleged victims and their families was important to ensuring that they felt safe enough to support the legal process.
