Plaudits are high for Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, in Canada, while calls for his removal from office over the controversy surrounding records on the evacuation of Ghanaians from South Africa grows in his home country.
The Minority Caucus in Ghana's Parliament is demanding the resignation or dismissal of Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa over discrepancies surrounding the GH¢46.2 million expenditure incurred by the government in evacuating Ghanaians from South Africa.
Ablakwa, who is currently in Canada with a delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on an official state visit, is yet to respond to the latest calls for his resignation or dismissal.
While some members of the Minority and the public are criticising Ablakwa over the issues emerging from the evacuation exercise, the minister has received plaudits for his work in Canada.
A video shared by the minister on his Facebook page on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, showed him receiving a standing ovation at the Canadian House of Commons.
The moment the minister was introduced, the Speaker and MPs of the House rose to their feet to applaud him.

Ablakwa, who was beaming with smiles, could be seen bowing as he acknowledged the applause.
In the post, the minister praised the Canadian MPs and their Speaker for the gesture.
“I wish to sincerely thank The Hon. Speaker Francis Scarpaleggia and Honourable MPs of the Canadian House of Commons for the honour done me, and for their exceptionally warm and beautiful reception,” he wrote.
