Former Nigeria head coach Sunday Oliseh has claimed that John Obi Mikel failed to show up for a meeting he arranged with the former Chelsea midfielder in London during his time as Super Eagles coach.
Oliseh said he travelled to the United Kingdom using his personal funds to meet Mikel and Victor Moses as part of efforts to discuss issues concerning the national team.
According to the former midfielder, he contacted both players and arranged a meeting at a bar in central London, accompanied by his assistant coach.
However, Oliseh said while Moses honoured the invitation, Mikel neither attended the meeting nor responded to his WhatsApp message.
“I did the same thing for Obi Mikel, again with my own money, not NFF money. I went to the UK, sent messages to the clubs and to him, and also to Victor Moses,” Oliseh recounted.

“Victor Moses came. Obi Mikel did not even respond to the WhatsApp message,” he added.
Oliseh described Mikel’s failure to attend as disrespectful, arguing that players should respect the position of the national team coach regardless of their status at their respective clubs.
He said he was particularly disappointed that Mikel could not make time for the meeting despite being in the same training environment as Moses earlier that day.
Despite the incident, Oliseh said he did not take the matter personally and praised Moses for the conversation they had during the meeting.
According to Oliseh, Moses openly discussed his concerns about the national team, with some of the issues raised reflecting experiences Oliseh had also encountered.
