Residents of some communities in Kumasi will experience planned power outages from Friday, October 30, to Sunday, November 29, 2026, as the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) undertake work on a major transmission line upgrade project.

The planned interruptions, which will occur between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on affected days, are intended to facilitate the safe installation of transmission conductors on towers along the 161kV Anwomaso-Ahodwo (K1-K2) transmission line.

GRIDCo and ECG announced the development in a joint statement issued on Thursday, October 29, 2026, explaining that the project had reached 70 per cent completion and was expected to be completed by the end of November.

According to the statement, the work has reached a critical stage involving the stringing of transmission conductors, which requires temporary interruptions in electricity supply to ensure the safety of engineers, other project personnel and the public.

The companies said the outages would affect communities along the transmission line route as work progressed through the various sections.

“The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) will publish a comprehensive schedule detailing the areas to be affected and the corresponding outage dates to enable consumers to plan accordingly,” the statement said.

The project is being undertaken under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition to improve the reliability of electricity supply in Kumasi and its surrounding communities.

GRIDCo and ECG acknowledged that the planned interruptions would inconvenience households, businesses and other electricity consumers.

“We appeal to the public, particularly affected communities, for your patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout this period,” the statement said.

The companies added that although the temporary outages were necessary to ensure the safe completion of the project, the upgrade represented an important investment in strengthening the transmission network and improving electricity supply reliability in the Ashanti Region.

They also apologised for the inconvenience and assured the public of their commitment to completing the project safely and on schedule.
