Truck carrying Kalyppo, biscuits overturns and catches fire at Nsawam

A MAN diesel truck carrying packs of Kalyppo and biscuits has been destroyed by fire after reportedly hitting a pothole, veering off the road and overturning on the Accra–Kumasi Highway near Frims Fuel Filling Station at Nsawam.

The truck, with registration number GE-1393-P, was travelling from Accra towards Paga when the incident occurred. Two male passengers sustained injuries and were rushed to Nsawam Hospital for medical attention.

Firefighters from the Nsawam Fire Station responded to the incident and brought the blaze under control.

The estimated damage to the truck stands at GH¢600,000, although the vehicle's salvage value has been assessed at GH¢200,000.

The poor condition of the road is suspected to have contributed to the crash, raising further concerns about the dangers motorists face when navigating damaged sections of major highways.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has urged the public to exercise caution on the roads to help prevent accidents. The Service has also called for safe electrical installations as part of its broader appeal to the public to guard against fire outbreaks.
