Javits Frimpong has been shot dead in the US
Broadcast journalist Afia Pokua has expressed sadness over the death of 15-year-old Ghanaian boy Javits Frimpong, who was shot dead in broad daylight while reportedly walking to school in the Bronx, New York.
In a social media post, Afia lamented that the teenager moved from Ghana to the United States only last year, but his life was cut short.
“Master Frimpong came to America just last year and his life was taken away by bullies in broad daylight in the Bronx,” she wrote.
Javits was shot in the abdomen shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2026, near East 171st Street in the Claremont neighbourhood. He was rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital but later died from his injuries.
The teenager had moved to the United States about a year ago to live with his father, Thomas Frimpong, while his mother remained in Ghana.
His father has alleged that Javits had been bullied by two students at school and said the principal contacted him about the matter three days before the shooting. The students were reportedly suspended.
Police are searching for three teenage suspects in connection with the killing. However, investigators have not confirmed that bullying was the motive for the shooting.
