New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has disclosed that US President Donald Trump has agreed to grant an immediate visa to the mother of a 15-year-old Ghanaian boy who was shot dead in the United States.

In a social media post on October 31, 2026, the mayor said the president gave the assurance during a telephone conversation.

“The murder of a child is a pain no parent should have to endure, let alone from thousands of miles away. Javits Frimpong’s mother deserves to say goodbye to her son in person.

“I just got off the phone with President Trump, and he has agreed to grant her a visa immediately. All of New York City is mourning this tragedy,” he said.

The 15-year-old Ghanaian boy, identified as Javits Frimpong, was shot dead in the Bronx, New York, in the United States.

According to reports, the teenager was shot in the abdomen while walking near a school on Thursday morning.

The incident occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. near East 171st Street and Crotona Place in the Claremont neighbourhood of the Bronx.

Police officers rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for three teenage boys, believed to be between the ages of 16 and 18, who are suspected of being connected to the shooting.

The suspects were reportedly last seen wearing all-black clothing and blue surgical masks.

Police say the circumstances surrounding the shooting remain unclear as investigations continue to establish a possible motive.

The fatal shooting occurred just around the corner from the apartment where Javits lived with his father, 60-year-old Thomas Frimpong.

CBS News New York reported that it spoke to the deceased teenager’s father by telephone while he was still at the hospital following the tragic incident.
